Dr. Nitte Shankara Adyanthaya Memorial First Grade College was established in 1988. The college is named after Dr. Nitte Shankara Adyanthaya, a philanthropic medical practitioner who contributed immensely to the upliftment of Nitte village.
The college was granted permanent affiliation to the Mangalore University and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for research funding and development grants in 1998. Dr. Nitte Shankara Adyanthaya Memorial First Grade College was accredited with an A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in Dec. 2009.
Aim
The College aims to instill in the students, the ability for analysis and judgement, the ability to relate to professional problems and to draw upon his or her resources for understanding and meaningful action and to inculcate values to draw out a desire for authenticity and sincerity.
Admission
BBM: A pass in the Pre-University examination of the Karnataka Board in any discipline or an examination considered equivalent thereto, by the Mangalore University.
B.Com: A pass in the Pre-University examination of the Karnataka Board in Commerce or an examination considered equivalent thereto, by the Mangalore University.
B.Sc: A pass in the Pre-University examination of the Karnataka Board with Science subjects or an examination considered equivalent thereto, by the Mangalore University, with Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science / Electronics / Chemistry / Biology / Statistics.
The number of seats available for the BBM stream is 120, B.Com, 60 (General: 40 + Vocational: 20) and B.Sc., 60.
Admission Procedure
Eligible candidates are required to submit their filled-in application forms with the following certificates and registration fee of Rs.200/- by cash. Admissions are made on merit and on first come first basis.
Certificates to be enclosed with the application form
1.Attested copy of marks card of the qualifying examination and II PUC/XII Std.
2.Attested copy of conduct certificate
3.Attested copy of SSLC as a proof of date of birth
4.10 recent passport size photographs
The provisionally selected candidates will be intimated by post. The selected candidate along with his/her parent will have to meet the Principal as admissions will not be made without the presence of the parent.
The following certificates should be produced in original along with the intimation card at the time of admission:
*Marks card of qualifying examination
*Transfer certificate & Conduct certificate issued by the Institution last studied
*Migration certificate from the previous Board/University, (for students who have studied in institutions other than those coming under the Karnataka Board)
*Eligibilty certificate issued by the Mangalore University, for candidates who have studied outside Karnataka
*Study certificate stating that the candidate was a regular student & has studied I & II PUC in the previous institution
*Pass certificate in the Entrance Test conducted by the Mangalore University for private candidates
*7 passport size photos
Selected candidates should pay the fees immediately. Those candidates who have passed out from institutions other than those that come under the Karnataka Pre-University Board must produce an eligibility certificate, issued by The Registrar, Mangalore University. The candidates should make their own arrangements to get this certificate. The college office will provide the details in this regard.
Facilities
Computer Centre:
Keeping pace with the needs of modern education system, the College has established a well-equipped computer centre with a leased line Internet connectivity.
Library:
The library with a seating capacity of 75, has a good collection of text and reference books and a number of journals and magazines.
Book-Bank:
Meritorious students can borrow additional text & reference books which they can keep for the whole semester.
Co-Curricular & Extra Curricular activities:
The college works towards improving communication skills, instilling confidence, informing students of job opportunities, and grooming them to face the future. This objective is achieved through the various co-curricular and extra curricular associations like the Debating & Quiz Association, Fine Arts Association, Literary Association, Sports Association, N.S.S, Science, Commerce & Management Association, Career Guidance and Placement Cell. Besides these, there are guest-lectures, career guidance and scientific programmes as well as visits to industrial units that are organised for the benefit of the students.
Short term courses:
Students are offered short term courses in Computer Science and Management, inconjunction with the regular curriculum. Bridge courses and tutorials are conducted for slow learners.
Sports & Games:
The state-of-the-art indoor stadium has amenities for indoor games such as basketball, badminton and table tennis, in addition to the gymnasium. The college has playgrounds which the students can use for outdoor sports and games.
Hostels:
There are separate hostels for girls and boys which are located close to the college. The mess facilities in the hostels are run on a cost-sharing basis. The wardens for both the hostels are from the teaching faculty.
Conveyance:
Students from Mangalore, Karkala, Udupi and Kundapur are provided with transportation facilities.
Medicare:
The medical and dental centres in the campus, take care of urgent medical and dental care free of cost. Both these centres are supervised and managed by doctors and paramedical staff.
Canteens:
There are 2 canteens on the campus which serve both, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food at subsidised rates.
Free Mid-day Meals:
The college provides free mid-day meals for economically weak students.
Co-operative Stores:
The campus has a students co-operative store, where stationery items and photocopying facilities are available. All students are members of the co-operative store.
Other facilities:
The campus has telephone booths, a post office and a full-fledged branch of the Syndicate Bank with ATM facility.
